Colección de Anélidos del Museo de Historia Natural Marina de Colombia - Makuriwa (Invemar)

La colección de anélidos del Museo de Historia Natural Marina de Colombia - Makuriwa se originó en 1980 a partir de 213 lotes que contenían 714 ejemplares, obtenidos en ambientes someros en inmediaciones de los departamentos de Magdalena y Bolívar. El material había sido recolectado desde 1970 por diversos investigadores del antiguo Instituto Colombo-Alemán de Investigaciones Tropicales - ICAL hoy en día Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas y Costeras Invemar. Con estos lotes se constituiría un pequeña colección de referencia, a la que posteriormente se incorporó material proveniente de algunas investigaciones realizadas en el instituto, trabajos de estudiantes de pregrado y posgrado, y algunas evaluaciones ambientales. Durante los años siguientes y hasta el año 2011, la colección se mantendría en un crecimiento constante pero con poco lotes; situación que cambiaría a partir del 2012, cuando a raíz del cambio en la normativa nacional respecto a la recolección de especímenes en el marco de la consultoría, se decide institucionalmente depositar en el MHNMC el material obtenido por la dependencia encargada de este tipo de actividades en el Invemar, la Coordinación de Servicios Científicos - CSC. Este ingreso masivo de material, sumado a los subsecuentes proyectos enfocados en la caracterización de los fondos de áreas de interés para exploración de hidrocarburos realizados desde 2012 hasta la actualidad, por parte tanto del instituto como de otras entidades, generaría un boom de depósitos de este grupo, con un consecuente incremento sostenido a lo largo de estos años. Actualmente la colección comprende un total de 7346 lotes catalogados, contabilizando el material del actual orden Supunculida. Este grupo antes de 2022 era identificado dentro del MHNMC como un filo independiente y por tanto contaba con una colección especifica para este. Debido a que durante el 2022 el Registro Mundial de Especies Marinas - WoRMS oficialmente reconoció a los Sipunculidos como un orden dentro de los Annelida; estos han sido incorporados a esta ultima colección. Sin embargo, por ahora el cambio está en proceso de organización interna y por la tanto, la información asociada a los lotes de sipuncúlidos, permanece publicada en un recurso independiente que había sido visibilizado previo al cambio de WoRMS. La documentación, digitalización y publicación final de esta colección fue realizada con apoyo del Proyecto BID-CA2020-055-NAC llevado a cabo entre 2021-2023 como parte del proceso de fortalecimiento a las colecciones de historia natural marina del país. Producto de ello, se presenta este recurso, el cual incluye un total de 7059 registros de los especímenes de la colección, excluyendo el orden Sipunculida, obtenidos en diferentes ambientes, entre los 0 y los 4218 m de profundidad, mayoritariamente del Caribe colombiano, pero incluyendo también registros del Pacífico colombiano, y de la región Antártica; estos últimos obtenidos durante las campañas recientes realizadas en el marco del Programa antártico del país. The annelid collection of the Museo de Historia Natural Marina de Colombia - Makuriwa originated in 1980 from 213 batches containing 714 specimens, obtained from shallow environments in the vicinity of the departments of Magdalena and Bolivar. The material had been collected since 1970 by various researchers from the former Instituto Colombo-Alemán de Investigaciones Tropicales - ICAL, now the Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas y Costeras Invemar. A small reference collection was built up from these batches, to which material was later added from some research carried out at the institute, work by undergraduate and postgraduate students, and some environmental assessments. During the following years and until 2011, the collection continued to grow steadily but with few lots; a situation that changed in 2012, when as a result of the change in national regulations regarding the collection of specimens in the framework of the consultancy, it was decided institutionally to deposit the material obtained in the MHNMC by the unit responsible for this type of activity at Invemar, the Coordination of Scientific Services - CSC. This massive input of material, coupled with subsequent projects focused on the characterization of hydrocarbon exploration blocks carried out from 2012 to the present, both by the institute and other entities, would generate a boom in deposits from this group, with a consequent sustained increase over these years. The collection currently comprises a total of 7346 cataloged lots, including material from the current order Sipunculida. This group prior to 2022 was identified within the MHNMC as a separate phylum and therefore had its own specific collection. Because during 2022 the World Register of Marine Species - WoRMS officially recognized the Sipunculids as an order within the Annelida, they have been incorporated into the latter collection. However, for now, the change is in the process of internal organization and therefore the information associated with sipunculid lots remains published in a separate resource that had been visible prior to the WoRMS change. The documentation, digitization, and final publication of this collection was carried out with the support of Project BID-CA2020-055-NAC carried out between 2021-2023 as part of the process of strengthening the country's marine natural history collections. As a result, this resource is presented, which includes a total of 7059 records of specimens from the collection, excluding the order Sipunculida, obtained in different environments, between 0 and 4218 m depth, mostly from the Colombian Caribbean, mostly from the Colombian Caribbean, but also including records from the Colombian Pacific, and from the Antarctic region, the latter obtained during recent campaigns carried out within the framework of the country's Antarctic Programme.
