Crustacea Subphylum Collection (Orders Stomatopoda & Amphipoda) of the Zoology Museum of the University of Concepción

This dataset contains 148 occurrence records of specimens belonging to the orders Stomatopoda and Amphipoda, which are part of the Crustacea Collection of the Zoology Museum of the University of Concepcion. The specimens were collected between 1952 and 2017, primarily in Chile from the Tarapacá Region to the Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctica, and to a lesser extent in the United States. They were collected by researchers and scientific expeditions, including the Metulia Project, CIMAR 7, CIMAR 8, CIMAR 11, Expedition Mar-Chile II, Knipovich Project. Specimens are fluid-preserved in alcohol, and each is associated with a unique catalogue number (MZUC-UCCC) and a defined storage location within the museum. This dataset includes type material (holotypes, allotypes and paratypes) of several species deposited in the collection, including Ampelisca araucana (Gallardo, 1963), Cyamus catodontis (Margolis, 1954), Osornodella gabrielae (Pérez-Schultheiss, 2013), Parhyalella penai (Pérez-Schultheiss & Crespo, 2008), and Patagongidiella wefkoi (Pérez-Schultheiss, 2013). Specimen data were initially recorded in an internal database of the museum and subsequently standardized following the Darwin Core (DwC) format. During this process, data consistency was reviewed, and when necessary, taxonomic nomenclature was updated using the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) “Taxon Match” tool. Geographic information was also validated to ensure that each specimen is associated with verifiable latitude and longitude coordinates. Finally, the dataset was validated using the GBIF data validator and the R package obistools prior to publication.
