Benthic biodiversity of marine waters near Churchill in 2022 in western Hudson Bay, Canada, revealed through DNA barcoding

This dataset presents DNA barcoding and occurrence records from benthic trawl samples collected in 2022 off the coast of Manitoba in western Hudson Bay, Canada. A total of 470 tissue samples were processed at the Canadian Centre for DNA Barcoding, resulting in the identification of 37 invertebrate species and 8 fish species, in addition to records resolved to higher taxonomic levels where species-level identification was not possible. Corresponding DNA barcode data were contributed to the Barcode of Life Database (BOLD).Occurrence records are linked to sampling events and include taxonomic classifications, specimen identifiers, and associated genetic sequence identifiers where available. This project was conducted through a collaboration between Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Oceans North, and Assiniboine Park Conservancy. Sequencing was performed by the Canadian Centre for DNA Barcoding (CCDB). Voucher specimens for a subset of invertebrate species were preserved and deposited in the Manitoba Museum’s natural history collection, as indicated in the occurrence records.
